Ruminations of the JSTU chapter President, Kevin Lovely

Kevin's Corner for January

The holidays are coming to an end, and I hope everyone is safe and healthy. I guess it time to start trying to plan for 2021 fishing season. One thing first - remember to buy your 2021 fishing permits (and trout stamp if fishing in NJ).

If you are a hearty soul, try winter fly fishing.. With little Ice on the rivers, it is a good time to get outside and fish. The South Branch and Musky has been stocked by Shannon’s and the northern TU Chapters. If you go be careful dress in layers and use a wading belt and staff. Some of the fly’s that are working are egg patterns (my favorite) with Midges in tan, grey, and olive color in size 18-24 behind your point fly.

For you guys who do not like cold feet, try the Pequest river near the Hatchery the water is a lot warmer than the other rivers. Again us eggs and midges ( grey ). One other thing if you don’t mind the ride the Little Lehigh in Allentown Pa is fishing well. If you want to stay close try the Toms or Manasquan rivers..

Be safe and wear masks!

Fishing Update From Santa - 12/14/2020

The latest and greatest for the winter fly fishing group...

Point Mountain is being stocked by Shannon's with 360 trout Tuesday December 15, 2020. Bubba will be back along with his buddies on the South Branch of the Raritan River, so everyone, if the weather is good, get out and fish. It's a great stress reliever!

Happy holidays and be safe,

The fishing Santa
